DPG Participates in Third UAE ‘Car Free Day’

Dubai-UAE: 18 January, 2012 – Dubai Properties Group (DPG), a member of Dubai Holding, was proud to partner with the Dubai Municipality today to participate in the third annual UAE ‘Car Free Day’. The initiative is designed to cut carbon emissions by reducing the number of vehicles on the road, and to raise awareness of alternative means of transport. DPG joined a number of key government and private organisations in encouraging the local community to care for their city by leaving their cars at home and take public transport on January 18th.

Over 250 employees from DPG joined thousands of government officials and Dubai residents today, opting to take the Metro or buses to get to work. A special ‘pledge board’ was set up at  DPG Headquarters in Dubai to capture employee signatures, which was also signed by senior DPG executives.

Car Free

This is the first year DPG has been involved in ‘Car Free Day’ initiative, and is an example of the company’s corporate responsibility (CR) platform “Responsible Living” launched last year. As part of this program, DPG facilitates events and joint initiatives with authorities and non profit organizations in an attempt to give back to the community and promote different aspects of living responsibly. Along with its participation in ‘Car Free Day’, recent examples of the ‘Responsible Living’ program include a DPG staff blood donation drive in, a partnership with DEWA to promote energy saving via a special ‘DEWA Bus’ in its communities, a recycling awareness drive which saw 24 recycling bins installed in its communities including JBR, Shorooq, Layan and Al Khail Gate.

Group CEO Khalid Al Malik said “At DPG, we are constantly developing new and innovative ways to support our communities, stakeholders and Dubai residents and encourage them to become responsible citizens. "We are proud to partner with Dubai Municipality to play our part in reducing carbon emissions and to highlight the alternative transportation options available in Dubai. By participating in this year’s ‘Car Free Day’, I hope we will encourage other organisations and individuals to get involved in important environmental initiatives such as this one in the future.”
